THE ISRAEL SURGICAL ASSOCIATION (ISA) MISSION STATEMENT

The Israel Surgical Association is the professional organization and scientific body for general surgeons in Israel, under the auspices of the Israel Medical Association. It is responsible for the development and promotion of general surgery and its subspecialties.

The Association is the official body responsible for overseeing surgical education and training at all levels to ensure the highest professional standards. This includes:

  • setting the syllabus for surgical trainees
  • writing and supervising written examinations and organization of oral examinations for board certification
  • accreditation of surgery departments for the training of surgical residents
  • organization of national and international conferences, seminars, workshops and courses to enable trainees and specialist surgeons to achieve the highest standards of  practice and patient care
  • organization of and participation in national and international meetings in collaboration with allied medical and professional groups and organizations

AIMS OF THE ISA

  • The advancement and development of general surgery and its branches
  • The education and training of surgeons at all levels of proficiency, the encouragement of continuing education and professional review of members and to set the recommended standards required for the performance of various procedures and the accomplishment of various tasks
  • Establishment and updating of appropriate guidelines and recommendations for the treatment of the various illnesses treated by the general surgeon, and the support of audit and evaluation of clinical effectiveness
  • Representation of and acting on behalf of members of the Association in the institutions of the Israel Medical Association and its Scientific Council, the Ministry of Health and various other governmental and non-governmental  organizations whose activities bear on the practice of General Surgery, and acting in an advisory capacity to these organizations
  • Representation of and provision of services on behalf of members of the Association in their dealings with medical and academic institutions with which they are affiliated
  • Promotion and support of surgical research and provision of a framework to present and disseminate the knowledge gained
  • Promotion of harmonious professional relationships between colleagues and encouraging the maintenance of the highest ethical standards
  • Collaboration with other medical and academic organizations in the Israel and around the world

Societies and Affiliations:

The Israel Surgical Association (ISA) is the umbrella organization for general surgeons in Israel incorporating general surgery and its subspecialties. It is the official representative organization for all board certified general surgeons in Israel.
